Sunday April 26th  CHOREOGRAPHIC WORKSHOP.

For novice choreographers and especially students studying VCE dance. Mark Annear- dancer, choreographer of many ballets and lecturer in dance will conduct two workshops exploring aspects of the choreographic process.

The sessions are aimed at opening up the creative imagination of the individual. They are intended to be the starting point of self discovery in composing dances. “Choreography can’t be taught but it can be learned”.      It is expected that the individual will gain the ability to make more comprehensive choices in creating dances.

Session 1

The tools and how to use them.

Showing how choreography can be broken down to its base elements of:   Time / Space / Energy.

The session explores how we can invent spatial shapes and pathways using: Symmetry and Assymetry / Curving and Angular Lines / Levels and Places and demonstrates how time can be manipulatd by varying:  The Rhythm / The Dynamics / The Speed.

Session 2

Putting it all together

How to develop a phrase, a theme and a motif. How to make the most of your phrase. How to develop form; creating a beginning, a middle and an end. Exploring musical forms and dance forms.
