Since its inception 1996, Dance Creation has fostered the talents of emerging choreographers. Originally presented as a competition, Dance Creation 2008 brought the second season of this new showcase format AICD Victoria selected participants on the basis of nominations from the artistic directors of major Australian dance companies. Dance Creation 2008 brought together five choreographers, two of our foremost dance institutions and the artists of Sydney Dance Company, in a program also featuring a live performance of a Japanese virtuoso Koto musician and composer. Like all creative artists, choreographers evolve through natural talent and hard work; unlike painters and musicians, they cannot do this in isolation. With this in mind AICD Victoria, through DANCE CREATION, provides emerging creators with an opportunity to develop and explore their talent. It provides a forum for these artists to share their work with an audience and creates the possibility of producing Australian choreographers of the future.
